Andrew’s Night – 2nd December

Our next Club Night will be our annual festive celebration, Andrew’s Night, where our Chairman, Andrew Hamel-Cooke will host an evening of entertainment by our members.

We’re hiring: Tutor for Nomes Youth Theatre

The Nomad Theatre Group is looking for a self-employed Tutor to work with our youth group, Nomes Youth Theatre. We are very keen to hear from talented, creative, inspirational, dynamic people who would like to work collaboratively with the wider group to inspire children and young people in performing arts through storytelling, drama, dance and creative play.

Role: Tutor for Nomes Youth Theatre

Type: Freelance contractor – Saturday working (5 hours per week, 30 weeks per year) with additional hours during productions

Salary: £negotiable

Nomes Youth Theatre is a fun and exciting youth theatre group based at The Nomad Theatre in East Horsley, Surrey. The group provides classes for children and young people aged 4-18, as well as producing shows through the year and a summer workshop week. Classes are run on Saturday’s during term time for ages 4-15 (10:30-3pm), with the potential to reinstate a Young Nomads group one evening per week (Years 9+).

  • 1 hr “Minis” (c.15) Reception to year 2
  • 1.5 hrs “Juniors” (c.20-24) Years 3-6
  • 1.5 hrs “Seniors” (c.20-24) Years 7+

In this role, you will work with another Tutor to prepare and lead classes, devising term plans in advance as well as creating timetables and class lists. Supported by the Nomads Council via the Artistic Director, including the opportunity to bring in Directors, Producers, Chaperones, Technical, Marketing & Publicity and Front of House teams, you will produce one main show per year, along with other smaller shows which will be open to parents and the general public to attend. Working closely with the Nomads Council, including the Membership Secretary, Data Protection Officer and Safeguarding Officer, you will ensure that records are secure and up to date.

To apply, you’ll have experience teaching performing arts to children and young people, be self-motivated and a natural communicator, have a passion for the arts and the ability to carry out administration tasks surrounding the classes, and have Enhanced DBS. Ideally you’ll be first aid trained and have your own transport (free parking).

The Nomad Theatre is equipped to professional standards, not-for-profit, working theatre with a committed and hard-working group of volunteers providing shows through the year for the local communities including Shakespeare, pantomime, music, drama and comedy. Theatre Manager

Role:
Theatre Manager

We’re looking for someone (or two people, possibly) to be a key contact on-site for our fantastic theatre. The Theatre Manager is primarily responsible for the essential front-line organisation of the booking of the theatre spaces – the studio/rehearsal room, the auditorium and Greenroom for audition, rehearsal, workshop, Nome classes and other appropriate purposes. They will also be responsible for supervising the security, tidiness and cleanliness of the building and grounds.

This person will be supported by a Theatre Management team comprised of no fewer than two other members. They will meet at regular intervals to ensure that the requirements of the TM role are being fully met and that the working of the theatre runs as efficiently as possible. The team will also be supported by many other volunteers who already currently work hard to maintain and improve the theatre and the group.

General activities

  • Manage the bookings for each of our theatre spaces, keeping the box office/marketing teams and group calendar up to date and liaising with affiliate groups as well as updating the Council on activity on a monthly basis
  • Manage security such as swipe cards, key holders and alarm system maintenance/response
  • Maintain a cleaning rota, stocks of supplies and budget
  • Maintain the interior and grounds of the theatre including organisation of “deep cleans”

This role is is an electable Council role and thereby accountable to the membership – the person may be co-opted by the council outside of the annual elections. To take on the role, you’ll need to be a member – find out more about membership here.
